ASBESTOS ANALYSIS
When you need to know if your property or materials contains asbestos, our qualified analytical laboratory will help you with cost-effective asbestos analysis. We commonly perform asbestos analysis through three sampling methodologies: bulk samples, airborne samples and water samples. If we determine that asbestos is present, we will connect you with our hazardous waste consultants, who can help you to effectively develop an asbestos management program.
We have the following asbestos analysis capabilities:
- Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) to analyze bulk material samples to determine what types and quantities of asbestos are present. Analysis is performed by EPA method 600/R-93/116.
- Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) to identify the fibers by morphology, electron diffraction and x-ray spectrometry. We are NVLAP accredited (National Institute of Standards and Technology, under the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program) to perform airborne asbestos analysis by TEM (Lab #101234-0).
- Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) to determine the airborne concentration of fibers when a release is suspected. PCM does not identify fibers as asbestos or non-asbestos, but can be a useful management tool in providing a measure of the potential hazard. Analysis is performed by NIOSH 7400 (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health).
