Our extensive field and lab services include:
Infrared/thermography Testing
Using the newest infrared technology captures internal defects.
Internal damage to equipment and structures is not always visible to the naked eye. To detect these defects, we use infrared technology on site. We combine the newest infrared technology with a high-resolution camera to capture images in a detailed format. This technology has a wide variety of applications for electrical, mechanical, roofing and building projects. We can also help you establish a periodic infrared inspection program using our infrared/thermographic camera at your site. These inspections provide a valuable baseline for current building conditions and allow you to monitor potential problems before they become costly repairs.
Liquid Penetrant Inspection (PT)
Proven inspection services from a trusted source.
Liquid penetrant inspection allows us to identify and sort defective parts and assemblies before you begin the costly process of machining and finishing. Our certified technicians perform inspections on machined, cast, stamped, welded and forged parts to reveal discontinuities that are not visually apparent. We travel to your site to perform liquid penetrant inspections, or, if you prefer, we perform these examinations in our own laboratory—ideal for production processing.
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT)
Revealing deficiencies to minimize costly downtime.
Corrosion or fatigue cracking can mean costly downtime for repairs or replacement. Our certified technicians use a magnetic particle inspection process to reveal flaws on and near the surface of raw materials, fabricated parts and weld joints in ferrous materials. Discontinuities in the material cause distortions in the magnetic field and are revealed in a pattern of magnetic particles. We’ll perform magnetic particle inspections at your facility with portable equipment using the yoke technique, or we can perform production work in our in-house NDE laboratory. Our laboratory stationary equipment is ideal for large production projects.
Radiography (RT)
Reliable technology brings a clearer picture to quality assurance.
Radiographic technology reliably detects welding and casting discontinuities, including slag, voids, thinning, fouling and inclusions deep within a fabricated material. On retail and commercial projects, we perform radiography on areas such as concrete floor slabs to locate post-tension cables, rebar and conduit to safely drill floor penetrations. We also provide radiography services for the natural gas and oil industries.
We bring your projects in-house as well for examination. We have the ability to radiograph castings and forgings at our laboratory. In situations where we need to evaluate fire-damaged equipment and appliances, our certified technicians use our x-ray tube to produce highly detailed and reliable radiographs.
Our inspection capabilities for the field and laboratory include:
- X-ray
- Iridium 192
- Cobalt 60
- Computerized Radiography (CR)
On-site mobile darkroom offers project flexibility.
When a project calls for quick, on-site results, we bring our mobile darkroom to your location. After we develop the film and interpret the results, we produce a report and present you with findings on site. This on-site process helps you toward expediently addressing any detected deficiencies or determining compliance discrepancies, saving travel time and expenses, while also improving your efficiency and project management.
Computerized Radiography
Convenience combined with reality.
Instead of relying on traditional film methods, computerized radiography gives you the convenience of combining digital photography with data management. Images are captured on a digital imaging plate and electronically processed with a state-of-the-art software package. This technology results in higher resolution images, electronic measuring capabilities and the ability to store images on your computer/database. Because images are stored digitally, they can easily be shared, communicated or even annotated with arrows and text, making this technology ideal for mechanical integrity programs.
Forensic X-ray Services
Skilled detection provides valuable data to solve the case.
When you need information to help you complete forensic investigation and analysis, we provide valuable data using forensic x-ray. Our x-ray services are often used by engineers and others involved in forensic investigations when examining fire-damaged electronics and appliances to provide crucial data in the determination of cause.
Ultrasonic (UT) Inspections
Ultrasonic examination readily determines code compliance and material integrity.
With ultrasonic examination we can detect and evaluate flaws in materials such as base metals and weldments on pipelines. Using shear wave examination methods, high-frequency sound waves are directed into a test specimen to assess welded components. We also evaluate the thickness of pipe, plate or other specified materials to calculate corrosion, erosion and remaining life expectancy. The imperfections in welds are evaluated in accordance with project requirements, codes and standards. Through UT we can evaluate the material and help you determine project compliance. We can also help you implement this examination method as a component of your mechanical integrity program.
Visual Examinations
Seeing is believing - our certified inspectors provide service you can depend on.
Nationally certified Braun Intertec inspectors can provide you with visual examinations on projects such as power plants, and manufacturing, sports, instutional and commercial facilities. Our observation services can determine compliance with national and industry standards, project specifications and construction drawings. Each trained inspector is familiar with American Petroleum Insitute (API) API 653, API 570, API 510, American Welding Society (D.1, D.5), International Code Council (ICC) and National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) standards. Extensive training in specific industry standards and our in-depth examination skills mean you can count on quality consulting services throughout your most challenging projects.
Positive Materials Identification (PMI)
When you positively have to provide the correct identification.
When you need to accurately identify the composition of an alloy, we can give you almost immediate results with our portable positive materials identification equipment. We perform PMI checks on piping, weldments, vessels and other product forms to determine material types for compliance to project specifications. The tests are a quick check to identify alloys such as stainless, chrome and other non-ferrous metals, and are often used during receipt inspection and as-built verification.
Welder Procedure Qualifications
Our inspectors are backed with experience and confidence.
Following a variety of national codes and standards, we perform welding procedure qualification tests on your welded samples to determine compatibility of welding consumables and base materials. We conduct our radiography and mechanical tests to comply with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), AWS, API, military standards and project specifications. We also have certified weld test conducters for the State of Wisconsin.
API Aboveground Storage Tanks, Vessels and Piping
Providing proven quality assurance services to your tank and piping projects.
At virtually any job site, Braun Intertec employees bring years of experience performing inspections to help you bring your tanks and piping into compliance with codes and standards such as:
- American Petroleum Institute Steel Tank Institute (API)
- American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
- National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE)
Special Inspections Services
Certified inspectors provide value through code compliance knowledge.
We have International Code Council (ICC) certified inspectors who provide both fabrication shop and erection observations in accordance with approved drawings and project specifications. The services include structural steel obervations, welding and bolting, and fireproofing.
Level III Consulting Services
You can rely on us for your Level III consulting.
When your project requires a Level III technician, you can rely on Braun Intertec to provide the right assistance. The American Society for Nondestructive Testing's Level III certification is a highly sought-after and difficult to attain credential that indicates expertise and advanced knowledge in nondestructive examination and testing. Because the credential is difficult to attain yet often required in product manufacturing, many companies turn to us for our Level III consulting capability. Our Level III technicians are available to consult at training programs, discuss procedures, help certify staff and review procedures and review film.
