Braun Intertec opened its St. Cloud office in 1977 and shortly thereafter, began providing geotechnical engineering services for the St. Cloud Airport.
Background For more than two decades, we’ve been involved in construction and renovation on a variety of projects at and around the facility: - Roadways and parking lots
- Aircraft hangars and maintenance buildings
- Airport administration building
- Airtraffic control tower
- Taxiways and runways
Challenges Most recently, we provided geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing and inspection services for the aiport’s new airtraffic control tower and upgrades on runways and taxiways. These projects required that state-certified personnel complete all field testing. Field testing for these projects included certain scheduling challenges - particularly performing soil borings on the functioning runway. Solutions On several occasions, crews worked nights when airtraffic was reduced -causing virtually no interruption to the airport’s flight schedule. And our office’s close proximity to the airport allowed us to be very responsive to changing conditions or contractors’ schedules.
Our extensive experience at the airport and its surrounding area has allowed us to develop a large database of information gathered during each project. By drawing from this database, we are able to reduce the scope of soil borings required for future projects. This provides for timely processing of data needed to implement new efforts and ultimately, more efficient project completion.
