As part of the construction of a temporary joint intermodal facility in the Twin Cities to serve Class 1 railroads, Braun Intertec was retained to provide soil testing and technical pavement design services.

Challenges

The section of pavement in question had to be designed for loading equipment wheel loads of 125,000 pounds.

Solutions

We performed soil test pits to investigate near-surface soil conditions and designed a temporary pavement section of aggregate base. In addition, we performed an environmental assessment and prepared a tabulation of applicable environmental regulations to assist with regulatory compliance.
