More than 20 school buildings in I.S.D. #281 were modernized to bring them into compliance with existing buildings codes and to accommodate new technology and better energy and environmental design.

Braun Intertec was retained to inspect, design and manage the removal of asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM), lead-based paint and other contaminants.

Challenges

This work included significant coordination efforts between the school board district employees, parents and community, as well as the multiple design professionals and regulatory agencies involved in these projects.

Solutions

We worked with the owner and architect to design the abatement in conjunction with the renovations. We provided onsite monitoring, testing, quality control and management as the owner’s representative.

We were responsible for:

• Asbestos and lead inspection
• Asbestos, lead and mold abatement cost estimating, project design, bid procurement and project
management
• Contract negotiations

Our team helped guide the school district through a multitude of environmental requirements, while keeping these projects on track for a successful completion.
