Target operates distribution centers for its retail stores from 10 different locations across the United States. Braun Intertec was retained to help the facilities with chemical management and regulatory compliance assistance at each of the locations.

Challenges

Each distribution center would require a complete plan tailored to its individual needs, based on varying regional chemical management and regulatory compliance standards.

Solutions

We worked with Target to develop a chemical management system that could be customized for each of its ten centers, meeting each of their individual regulatory compliance needs.

Chemical Use and Disposal Guidebooks Working directly with each facility, we are developing site-specific chemical use and disposal guidebooks. These guides provide each location with the necessary information to properly manage chemical materials that become damaged during handling at the distribution centers. The guides also include options for product reuse to help minimize waste.

We review regulatory requirements in each state and provide several reuse and disposal options for each material. In addition, we provide training on the guidebooks and program implementation at each facility.

Environmental Compliance Manuals
In conjunction with onsite training programs, we review environmental compliance requirements for each of the facilities. An environmental compliance manual is then compiled for each location, containing information about each of the environmental programs to which the facility is subjected. An explanation of each program, and Target’s compliance requirements, are detailed in the manuals. Copies of plans, permits and log sheets for air, hazardous waste or wastewater emissions are also compiled in the guides.

Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans
Stormwater pollution prevention plans are being developed for each of the distribution centers, during which we conduct a facility inspection. All stormwater conveyances and runoff patterns are detailed and compiled on a site map. Findings allow us to assist each location with the development of a stormwater plan that details the following items:
