Braun Intertec founder Jack Braun awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award

Minneapolis, MN (July 7, 2010) – Braun Intertec, a premier Upper Midwest engineering, consulting and testing firm, is proud to announce that company founder Jack Braun was recently awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Institute of Technology of the University of Minnesota for his outstanding work and leadership in the civil engineering profession. The University confers its Outstanding Achievement Award on graduates or former students of the University who have attained unusual distinction in their chosen fields or professions or in public service, and who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and leadership on a community, state, national or international level.

Mr. Braun received his B.S and M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1956 and 1957, respectively. He founded Braun Intertec Corporation in 1957, and led the company to a position of national prominence. He stepped down from his position of chief executive officer in 1997 and retired as Chairman of the Board in 1999. He continues as Chairman Emeritus.

During his professional tenure, Mr. Braun was very active in both professional and public service. He served as President and Board Member of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota, and as Senior Vice President of the corresponding national organization. Through Rotary International, Minnesota Health Volunteers and Bridges to Learning, he participated in several missions to Africa, El Salvador and Vietnam. He has provided outstanding leadership to the Institute of Technology by serving both as a Civil Engineering Department Advisory Board Member and President of the Institute of Technology Alumni Society.

Mr. Braun is also a strong supporter of education and helped to finance continuing education in many forms. The J.S. Braun/Braun Intertec Professorship of Science and Technology at the University of Minnesota was created in 1990 by Jack and Priscilla Braun and Braun Intertec Corporation as a means to bring 20 outstanding professors to the University to address issues related to engineering, environmental science and construction materials testing. The endowment of the Professorship continues to make it possible for visiting professors from all over the world to come to the University of Minnesota for a semester to teach their noted disciplines.
