Ricardo Padilla, lead material testing technician on a project in North Dakota, knows that firsthand, because he grew into his role from the ground up. When he first joined our team, he applied for a lead technician position but did not have enough experience yet. So, he went to work. Over about a year on the project, he took on more and more responsibility until he grew into the lead role he had first applied for. 

He is quick to say he never grew alone. "I have never had a situation where the resources that I needed to learn another part of this trade has not been available to me," Ricardo said. That support is exactly why he tells others, "If you come here, all you can do is grow." 

That experience shapes the way he works today. Ricardo stays hands-on, taking on the same tasks he asks of his crew. "A lot of my experience comes from simply performing the tasks that I am asking my team members to do," Ricardo said. "I have most likely struggled through any struggles that they might be going through, and I try to make it as easy as possible for them to learn."
