Braun Intertec Brings Cultural Resources Expertise to the Twin Cities
Through the acquisition of Nienow Cultural Consultants, Braun Intertec expands archaeological capabilities to the Twin Cities
As infrastructure and development projects across Minnesota become more complex, cultural resource requirements are playing an increasingly important role in keeping projects on track. Meeting those requirements warrants not only specialized credentials, but also deep local knowledge and experience navigating regulatory processes.
To better support clients facing these challenges, Braun Intertec acquired Nienow Cultural Consultants (NCC), a Twin Cities–based cultural resources consulting firm, on June 22, 2026. The acquisition establishes a dedicated cultural resources presence in the Twin Cities and expands its archaeological capabilities across the Upper Midwest.
“Cultural resource requirements in the Upper Midwest demand specialized expertise,” said Tim Lenway, CEO of Braun Intertec. “As our clients look for integrated support to keep projects moving, this acquisition allows us to deliver the comprehensive support they need to keep projects moving.”
Braun Intertec has long provided cultural resources services in other regions through its Edwards-Pitman Environmental subsidiary in the Southeast. Bringing this expertise to the Twin Cities reflects both growing client demand and the need for local teams who understand the region’s unique regulatory environment.
NCC brings decades of experience supporting transportation, infrastructure, and development projects across the region. The firm has worked closely with Braun Intertec for more than ten years, collaborating on projects that require coordination across environmental, engineering, and cultural resources disciplines. “Joining Braun Intertec creates a strong opportunity to grow cultural resources in a meaningful way,” said Jeremy Nienow, Ph.D., RPA. “Their reputation and employee-owned culture aligns with what we built at NCC. We’re proud to continue our journey with Braun Intertec.”
By integrating NCC’s team, Braun Intertec strengthens its ability to help clients navigate permitting, compliance and project timelines while confirming cultural and historical resources are responsibly managed.
