Boswell Energy Center Air Permitting
The Boswell Energy Center is a coal-fired power station located in Cohasset, Minnesota, operated by Minnesota Power. The facility has a total capacity of 922 megawatts (MW) and consists of four units, two of which have been retired
Braun Intertec provided air dispersion modeling and air permit application for approximately 50-point sources representing boilers, cooling towers, and material handling operations; over 400 paved and unpaved road volume sources, and various fugitive volume sources. This project involved the preparation of a major air permit amendment with an associated NAAQS modeling demonstration. The modeling demonstration required the assessment of a change to the ambient air quality boundary, the incorporation of paved and unpaved road emissions into the model, and the evaluation of refinements and strategies to minimize modeled ambient air quality concentrations.
