Brewery Personal Protection Monitoring
Braun Intertec conducted personal exposure monitoring to assess potential chemical and particulate exposures among employees working in various laboratory and production areas. Samples were collected from the workers’ breathing zones over the course of their shifts, with field blanks included for quality control. Specific analytes monitored included chloroform, ethylene glycol, acrylamide, acetonitrile, grain dust, flour dust, and potassium iodide, using appropriate sampling methods and equipment. Each location had designated sample types and quantities based on the substances present. Additionally, we performed a limited review of a fume hood to evaluate its effectiveness in capturing airborne contaminants. This evaluation also included an inspection of electrical equipment for compliance in classified areas.
Noise exposures were also assessed through personal noise dosimetry for employees enrolled in the Site’s hearing conservation program. Dosimeters were programmed to comply with OSHA regulations under 29 CFR §1910.95, and a sound pressure level (SPL) survey was conducted concurrently using a sound level meter to measure noise levels around equipment and within the facility. Braun Intertec compiled the findings into a written report that included observations, conclusions, and recommendations. The monitoring data were used to calculate each worker’s 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA) exposure, which was then compared to OSHA’s permissible exposure limits (PELs) and action levels.
