Mobridge Municipal Airport Taxilane and Apron Rehabilitation

Braun Intertec was asked to perform a geotechnical evaluation for the proposed taxilane reconstruction and apron rehabilitation at the Mobridge Municipal Airport in South Dakota. On this project, we coordinated the site access for our drill rig and utility clears with the client and airport to complete our evaluation of these areas safely, and with minor impact to the airport operations. Our evaluation included 14 soil borings to a depth of 11 feet, pavement core samples for thickness and condition of the pavement and gathering of bag samples for our lab to evaluate existing soil conditions to provide recommendations for pavement design and subgrade preparation for the proposed improvements. During our evaluation, our experienced engineering staff classified soils and submitted laboratory testing to evaluate existing soil conditions. Our tests included moisture contents, Atterberg limits, sieve hydrometers, standard proctors, and California bearing ratios testing all following ASTM procedures and accreditations. Once our laboratory results were compiled, our engineering staff provided a detailed report with recommendations for these improvements in accordance with current FAA circulars for airport design and evaluation.
