St. Mary's University Research and Discovery Center

The Research and Discover Center project consisted of renovation of the existing 1950’s building at St. Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota with concrete pan and joist floor system. Braun Intertec performed in-situ load testing on the existing floor system to determine an allowable live load capacity for the floor structure. The purpose was to verify the existing floor structure would be able to support the new live loads since portions of the building were being repurposed. The load testing involved developing a loading sequence (following ACI guidelines) using large tubs and using linear variable differential transformers (LVDT) to measure deflection in real-time of the structure. Braun Intertec was also involved in assessment of the structural integrity of several distress concrete columns and walls in the building as part of the rehabilitation process.
