In 2020, the University of Minnesota announced extensive renovation, addition and moderation of the century Carmen D. and James R. Campball Hall, home to the Institute of Child Development (ICD). The new ICD building blends historic elements of the façade and interior of the ninth oldest, active building on the Twin Cities campus with contemporary teaching spaces, cutting-edge research facilities and energy-efficient features. Braun Intertec conducted a 95% review of the design and specifications for waterproofing and water intrusion:

  • New addition curtail wall and small  "low roof" details
  • 1913 building exterior envelope design details and system review
  • Building connection details for the interface between the 1913 building and the new addition.

We also performed a third-party review of the WUFI analysis of the 1913 exterior envelope. WUFI determines the hygrothermal performance of building components under real climate conditions. Finally, we conducted a follow-up review of the 98% construction drawings.
