Materials Testing & Analysis

Decorative Line Pattern

Laboratories

We support our projects with multiple materials laboratories and mobile on-site labs across the US. Our load frames can accommodate a wide range of samples, sizes and strengths to evaluate materials. In addition to performing standard tests on raw materials, we also design and build customized fixtures and tests for specific products and assemblies. We have servo-hydraulic load frames and state-of-the-art data acquisition technology to deliver the results you need, when you need them.

Key Services

  • Cyclic fatigue
  • Tensile strength
  • Compressive strength
  • Flexural strength
  • Hardness
  • Strain measurements
  • Pressure
  • Many other forms of physical testing.
  • Atterberg Limits

Our laboratories are AASHTO-accredited with several validated by the United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE). Additionally, several laboratories are ISO 17025-accredited capable of performing small projects, large multi-year projects, and research projects for national companies and governmental agencies.

Asphalt

As an industry leader in asphalt testing and design services, we offer a wide range of QA/QC and investigation services. With capabilities and experience in Superpave, cold-in-place recycling, and full-depth reclamation mix designs, we can provide you with multiple options for roadway pavement design and testing. We also provide performance-based testing such as disc-shaped compact tension testing and semi-circular beam testing. We have equipment, proficiency and experience to provide asphalt testing services from our main laboratories and mobile field laboratories.

Concrete

Testing of concrete and masonry products includes physical properties such as compressive strength, flexural strength and freeze-thaw durability. Our advanced concrete, cement and mortar testing capabilities have supported research and development along with project-related testing. The cementitious laboratory can evaluate cement, fly ash, and slag cement for physical properties and help troubleshoot cementitious-related performance issues using calorimetry and mortar testing. We understand performance issues related to admixture/cementitious interactions which may cause issues in field performance.

We also offer advanced concrete science services including developing high-performance concrete, solving production and performance challenges, and evaluating new and existing concrete structures.

Aggregate

Our certified aggregate technicians provide testing for new aggregate sources, evaluation of concrete aggregate, or aggregate base testing. We use specialty aggregate equipment to perform services ranging from sieve analysis to long-term durability testing. The aggregate lab often works in conjunction with our petrographic lab to investigate new sources or determine the source of quality issues.

Geotechnical/Soils

Before beginning any project, you need to understand how the soil at your site will accommodate the proposed structure. We evaluate the soil properties and behaviors to provide engineering recommendations. These tests can better equip decisions during the construction process regarding settlement, load-bearing capacity, slope instability and water infiltration.
